Sr. Technical Writer

The Technical Writer is responsible for participating on one or more Agile-based software development teams. The Technical Writer must be able to prioritize responsibilities and work with development teams to streamline, integrate, and continuously improve the effectiveness of the documentation process. Responsibilities include defining documentation standards, producing high-quality and user-friendly product documentation, ensuring the organization of documentation meets the needs of the users, and focusing on continual improvement of our product information offering. They are responsible for conducting interviews with various users and technical staff to gather information for documentation. The Technical Writer recommends ideas and processes that help Spok best meet users’ needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Write and update product information including, but not limited to, user guides, administrator guides, configuration guides, installation guides, quick reference guides, reference guides, pre-installation guides, and release notes for Spok applications. Research aspects of Spok software applications. Research includes: finding knowledge sources, interviewing knowledge sources, and testing. Review product functionality and user interface; develop and execute strategies to ensure documentation provides appropriate information based on intended audience and use case. Identify deep technical concepts/solutions and then translate them into meaningful content based on intended audience and use case. Create and maintain content in a content management system Use content management system metrics and feedback to analyze and adapt content to meet users’ needs Ensure that all documentation can be easily translated to other languages. Exercise “user-centric” thought when creating content to meet the varied needs of users’ interacting with the product and information in different ways Perform peer reviews of product documentation for other technical writing resources. Employee is responsible for creating and protecting Spok’s intellectual property Drive continuous improvement of documentation practices to make the team more efficient, deliver higher quality products, and complete documentation promptly so scrum teams can ship on time. Identify inefficiencies and take initiative to find the root cause and implement corrective actions. Implement documentation improvements to product documentation for internal and external audiences and to prevent future escalations. Create, maintain, and advocate for Spok documentation standards.
