POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is located in the Engineering Department, Ship Self Defense System Branch (SSDS), of the Submarines/Combat Systems Division, Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC). The command serves as a regional technical authority for Direct Fleet Support of Pacific Fleet ships operating in the Pacific Ocean area, Indian Ocean, and other locations as assigned. The command also serves as COMPACFLT's representative for Shipboard technical assistance on controversial problems that have been determined to be beyond the capability of organizational level, Intermediate Maintenance Level Activities (IMAs) and ship repair facilities. The principal area of responsibility encompasses major systems for: Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) and Rolling Airframe Missile System (RAM), and associated subsystems: CIWS(Close-In Weapon System) MK 31 RAM GMLS (Rolling Airframe Missile Guided Missile Launching System), all Mods MK-144 Rolling Air-Frame Missile (RAM) Launchers. Assesses and repairs all type of MK-15 Close-In Weapons Support (CIWS) gun system, and the Mk-38 Mod 1 & 2 25 MM Machine Guns systems installed aboard Navy ships. Support waterfront maintenance, PMS, & TS/R efforts for San Diego based ships CIWS. The technician shall provide technical support with the responsibility to include functional checks, test and inspection, and material condition assessments on U.S. Navy surface ships for CIWS and RAM systems. Provide Immediate Authoritative technical assistance on urgent mission degrading problems affecting major shipboard systems on U. S. PACFLT ships. The assistance includes systems evaluations or inspections, problem identification, troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance, parts identification and operator training for the ship's technicians. Familiarity with shipboard maintenance procedures is required along with all safety and quality assurance instructions and practices. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: US Citizenship; Must be able to obtain and maintain an Active Secret Clearance; candidates currently possessing an Active Secret Security Clearance are preferred; High School Diploma or equivalent; Military C School on CIWS systems and Navy maintenance procedures.; Minimum eight (8) years of direct experience working with the preventative / corrective maintenance and troubleshooting of Close-In Weapons Support gun system, and the Mk-38 Mod 1 & 2 25 MM Machine Guns systems. Knowledgeable of Navy tag-out, standard troubleshooting techniques, and Navy Quality assurance practices. Knowledge and experience in military terminology procedures. Knowledge of standard items, test procedures and test memos. Understands and follows standard and specified safety procedures and operating procedures. Practical experience with quality assurance. Ability to use a variety of precision measurement standards and instruments. Ability to use drawings, prints, schematics and wiring diagrams to locate defective components and perform repairs. Work with published technical directives and equipment specifications which outline specific alignment and calibration procedures Ability to attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly units, using hand tools and power tools as instructed and other duties as assigned by their supervision; Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License; Must pass drug screening as a condition of employment.
